FAQ
Who would want concrete countertops/other design elements?
Concrete elements such as countertops, vanities, and bathtubs are by far the most unique and personal option in comparison to other solid surface materials because they are made from scratch for each client. Concrete elements may be for you if:
- You want something unique and personalized
- You want something that looks natural and has character
- You appreciate fine high-quality custom handcrafted products
- You think Granite is too common, too shiny, too formal
- You think synthetic solid surface materials look and feel like plastic
- You want a color or visual design that is not available with other materials
What are the advantages of concrete?
Although many alternatives to concrete such as Granite, Marble, and other solid surface materials are beautiful, they are considered the “norm” in mainstream home design and renovation. With mass production high, everyone has them. The beauty of concrete is that there are limitless
possibilities. You can choose from an infinite selection of color combinations, shapes and finishes resulting in one-of-a-kind products. In today’s custom world concrete products are unique to anything else and can be simple or extravagant. They can fit into traditional,
contemporary and transitional designs.
Will my concrete stain?
Concrete Atelier’s products are factory sealed postproduction with a sealer that is virtually stain-proof, requires low maintenance and can last the lifetime of the countertop without the need to reseal. Heavy staining agent such as wine, ketchup and acids such as lemon juice
will leave no trace even if left on the surface for hours. Concrete Atelier remains on the cutting edge of sealer technology in order to provide beautiful handcrafted stone that lasts a lifetime.
How are your products made and installed?
Countertops:
Pre Cast: Concrete countertops are handled and installed just like granite. We fabricate your countertops off-site in our manufacturing facility and install them in your home or commercial space. All specifications are thoroughly reviewed
before production begins. You are even welcome to stop by the facility by appointment to see your order in progress.
Cast In Place: Concrete Atelier can also fabricate your countertops/bar or other element in place. This option works well particularly for commercial spaces that are already in the midst of other renovations such as a new restaurant, or a
homeowner who is re-designing an entire room i.e. the kitchen. This option is also ideal for very large and dramatic pieces and allows you to be more creative with bold designs.
Other Elements:
Concrete Atelier designs and produces all of our own fiberglass molds. From every countertop, vessel, vanity, bathtub and beyond, we take great care and pride in producing innovative and timeless pieces. After the custom mold is complete the products are cast just like our countertops.
Following the curing process the pieces are then buffed, diamond polished, and factory sealed to a flawless matte, gloss or high gloss finish.
. If you have your own idea in mind we can sketch it, add precise measurements, and create your vision as well.
Are there any special structural considerations?
Not usually, because Concrete Atelier’s standard countertops weigh about the same as granite (occasionally less), and can be safely supported by standard kitchen cabinets. Due to high-tech internal reinforcement, Concrete Atelier’s concrete countertops can overhang further than
granite or marble without the need for additional support. Although solid and quite heavy, our bathtubs weigh about 40-60% less than granite, marble, travertine and even some concrete due to our advanced internal reinforcement technique. Our vessels weigh the same in comparison
to porcelain.
Are concrete countertops and elements eco-friendly?
Yes. Concrete has many advantages over other materials when it comes to environmental impact. Our handcrafted concrete stone is designed, manufactured and shipped all within the United States. The additives to our cement mix contain materials such as recycled glass, marble, steel
reinforcement and additives to reduce water needed during production. Concrete Atelier also manufactures our own reusable custom molds.
Do you offer a warranty?
Yes. Concrete Atelier warrantees the structural integrity of the concrete for one year after installation. Our products are built to last a lifetime, but if a problem were to occur, it would most likely occur and be noticeable in the first year. Concrete Atelier also provides
care and maintenance assistance for the life of the product.
